TVSummary guide: The Amazing Race 10: Episode 10 Recap 11/19/06

Kmanpat writes, "Welcome back to Leg 9! Last time on The Amazing Race: I’m Helsinki in the Mud, teams bounce uncontrollably from Madagascar to Helsinki, Finland.  The teams (and Phil) get down and dirty in the mud and end up in a limestone mine.  (Kandice: “Grab a pokey thing!”  Kmanpat: “I would, Kandice, but Tyler and James aren’t here!”  Toyouke: *slaps him* “WILL YOU STOP THAT ALREADY?!?!?”)  Teams race back to Helsinki to the only building in Finland that doesn’t have seven esses in the name, and find themselves. . . still racing.  Five teams remain.  Who will be eliminated . . . tonight?

Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, Finland

Teams arrive at the tower at Olympic Stadium in the following order:

1-Tyler/James
2-Dustin/Kandice

3-Erwin/Godwin

4-Rob/Kimberly

5-Lyn/Karlyn

Teams then rip open their clue to find that they must travel to the top of the tower and do an Angel Drop rappel, a 236 ft rappel down the side of the tower FACE FIRST.  There are three lines, but only one team member may rappel at a time.

Teams reach the bottom in the following order:

1-Tyler/James
2-Dustin/Kandice

3-Lyn/Karlyn

4-Rob/Kimberly

5-Erwin/Godwin

When teams reach the bottom, they find that they are not at a Pit Stop and need to KEEP RACING, all the way to the capital city of the country where Chernobyl Reactor Number Four exploded.  (Dustin: “Isn’t that where the atomic bomb went off?”  *The Amazing Sound Editors ring the Gong of Stupidity*)  Teams are then to discover that they are on their way 1900 miles away to Kiev, Ukraine.  Once they arrive, they are to choose a Russian-made car to get their next clue.  Oh, and teams have $65 for the second half of the leg.

Teams arrive at the airport in the following order:

1-Tyler/James
2-Dustin/Kandice

3-Rob/Kimberly

4-Erwin/Godwin

5-Lyn/Karlyn

Teams now book one of two flights out of Helsinki to Kiev.  However, the teams find this difficult as it is 9:17 pm when the Himbos arrive.  (Kmanpat: “Dang, it’s light out for that late at night.”  Toyouke: “Dear, it’s FINLAND.  In the summer.”  Kmanpat: “Does that mean that it doesn’t get dark right away?”  Toyouke: *slaps head*)

Flight # 1, Helsinki to Kiev through Vienna, departs 8:25 AM, arrives 1:35 PM

1) Tyler/James

2) Dustin/Kandice

Flight # 2, Helsinki to Kiev through Warsaw, departs 9:25 AM, arrives 1:35 PM

1) Rob/Kimberly

2) Erwin/Godwin

3) Lyn/Karlyn

All teams are on their way to Kiev, but the Warsaw flight gets delayed a half hour.  All the teams arrive in Kiev, and they leave the airport and find their cars in the following order:

1-Tyler/James
2-Dustin/Kandice
3-Rob/Kimberly

4-Lyn/Karlyn

5-Erwin/Godwin

Teams read their clue: “Drive yourselves to the м.Остер.169 танковий учбовий центр «Десна».”  (Kmanpat: “Cyrillic.  AWESOME.”)  This tells teams to drive themselves to the Oster Tank School, which is 58 miles away at a military training base.  Most teams pay a taxi to drive in front of their cars and take them there.

Teams arrive at the Oster Driving School in the following order:

1-Dustin/Kandice – “The only Ukrainian thing I know is the “Ukrainian Bell Carol”.”  (Kmanpat: “Ooh!  I can sing that!”  Toyouke: “Good.  Don’t.”)
2-Tyler/James

3-Rob/Kimberly – who are arguing in the car.  I know.  Shocking.

4-Lyn/Karlyn – who are follwing the Chos and complaining about it.

5-Erwin/Godwin

And teams encounter the Roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to take command?

In this roadblock, one team member must drive a Soviet era T-64 tank through a military training course.  Once the course is completed, the officer will give teams their next clue.

1- Dustin
2- James
3- Kim

4- Lyn

5- Godwin

Teams finish the Roadblock in the following order:

1-Dustin/Kandice
2-Tyler/James

3-Rob/Kimberly

4-Erwin/Godwin

5-Lyn/Karlyn

Teams find that they must now travel 43 miles back to Kiew and find Apartment Building # 3, Apartment 33 to get their next clue.  In the meantime, James changes shirts.  *drool*

Teams arrive at Apartment 33 in the following order.

1-Dustin/Kandice
2-Tyler/James

3-Rob/Kimberly – who got a replacement car due to overheating.

4-Lyn/Karlyn – who finally had it with the Chos, and pass them to get to the clue.

5-Erwin/Godwin

And teams arrive at the Detour.

DETOUR:
Make the Music OR Find the Music

*Make the Music: Teams drive themselves 3 miles to the Dance & Groove Studio Bar Hip Hop Club to write and perform a rap containing a list of all the countries that they have visited thus far on the Race (USA, China, Mongolia, Vietnam, India, Kuwait, Mauritius, Madagascar, Finland, Ukraine, in case you lost track).  A professional rap artist will be the judge and give them their next clue.
*Find the Music: Teams drive themselves 2.5 miles to the National Music Academy of Ukraine to search through thousands of pieces of sheet music to find the piano part to Tchaikovsky’s “Concert Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra”.  Once they have the music, teams must search through 120 practice rooms to find one of six pianists to play the music.  Once they listen to the piece, teams will receive their next clue.

1-Dustin/Kandice choose Make the Music
2-Tyler/James choose Find the Music

3-Rob/Kimberly choose Make the Music

4-Lyn/Karlyn choose Make the Music

5-Erwin/Godwin choose Find the Music

Teams complete the detour in the following order:

1-Tyler/James
2-Dustin/Kandice

3-Rob/Kimberly

4-Lyn/Karlyn

5-Erwin/Godwin

Teams must now drive themselves 2 miles to the Great Patriotic War Museum, the ninth Pit Stop.  The last team to check in may be eliminated.

Teams arrive at the museum in the following order:

1-Tyler/James – who win a trip for two to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, complete with dolphins and jungles!  What a prefect honeymoon!
2-Dustin/Kandice

3-Rob/Kimberly

4-Lyn/Karlyn

5-Erwin/Godwin

And the nice boys DO finish last.  The Chos say that they feel they played the game the way they wanted to, and that the team that they want to win is still in it, so they feel good.

ORDER NOW:
1st – Tyler/James
2nd – Dustin/Kandice
3rd – Rob/Kimberly
4th – Lyn/Karlyn

Next week: Chariot Racing!  And the yield!  Until next time. . .
