The Amazing Race 12: 12/23/07 Episode 7 Recap
Kmanpat writes, "Welcome to Leg 7! Last time, on Survivor: We Need To Preempt Our Five-Time Emmy Award Winning Show For More Whiny Drama, the gay Mormon flight attendant, Todd, won the million dollars. And Denise talked smack about her school district, which, as we’ve learned, Heidi who gets naked for peanut butter, is not wise to do on national television. This is why I play classroom versions of these shows so that I don’t have to go on them and make a fool of myself. (Toyouke: “No, you do a fine job of that on your own in your classroom.”) ANYWAY, on the show we care about, last time on Dubrovnik: Gymnast Come From Here!, the Beakers die a slow painful death when they buy Business Class. The Archie Bunkers thrive, the Marlboros dive, and take private transportation. But they do better than Azaria and Hendekea, who are eliminated. Who will be eliminated. . . next?
Arrival at the pit stop last episode: 1st – Ronald/Christina, Team Archie Bunker, arrived at 2:19 PM 2nd – Kynt/Vyxsin, Team Rocky Horror, arrived at 2:55 PM 3rd – Nathan/Jennifer, Team Marlboro, arrived at 3:45 PM 4th – TK/Rachel, Team Granola, arrived at 5:37 PM 5th – Nicolas/Donald, Team Chicago, arrived at 7:06 PM
Stone Cross Overlook, Dubrovnik, Croatia
2:19 AM Ronald/Christina (1st) Clue: Travel by bus to Split, Croatia. Once there, take a ferry across the Adriatic Sea to Ancona, Italy! Once there, locate your next clue. They are excited to be in first place. 2:55 AM Kynt/Vyxsin (2nd) – Vyxsin: “The pink and black attack rocks! We work so well together!”
3:45 AM Nathan/Jennifer (3rd) 5:37 AM TK/Rachel (4th) 7:06 AM Nicolas/Donald (5th)
Teams arrive at the bus terminal in the following order: 1- Ronald/Christina 2- Kynt/Vyxsin 3- Nathan/Jennifer 4- TK/Rachel 5- Nicolas/Donald
Teams arrive at the bus station, and some of them find out the first bus to Split is not until 5 am. So, the busses board in the following order:
Bus 1: 5:00 AM 1) Ronald/Christina 2) Kynt/Vyxsin 3) Nathan/Jennifer
Bus 2: 6:00 AM 1) TK/Rachel
Bus 3: 8:00 AM 1) Nicolas/Donald
Teams arrive in Split and find themselves all on the 10 am ferry to Ancona. Teams then arrive at the clue in Ancona at 9:40 pm in the following order: 1- Nathan/Jennifer 2- Nicolas/Donald 3- TK/Rachel 4- Kynt/Vyxsin 5- Ronald/Christina
Teams find in their clue that they now need to choose a car and drive themselves 200 miles to the town of Empoli. Once there, teams must find Campo di volo Silvano Poli in Commune si Cortenuova in order to get their next clue. Teams also receive a Blackberry wireless device. Sometime on the journey, they will receive a message, but they are not to use the Blackberry for any other purpose. Teams drive through the night and arrive in Empoli in the following order:
1- Nathan/Jennifer – who talk to some locals and find a shortcut on some back roads. This works out for them and is also the same route for. . . 2- TK/Rachel – however, this team finds themselves having to go back to the café to get their clue which they left there. 3- Ronald/Christina – who created directions through Bologna. However, they ran into some issues at their exit to Florence due to the road being closed until 6 am. They found a different route, unlike. . . 4- Nicolas/Donald – who instead, when in the same situation, waited out the closure and took their original route. This would have been wise for. . . 5- Kynt/Vyxsin – who detoured off and then got lost in Italy.
So, anyway, Campo di volo Silvano Poli in Commune si Cortenuova. Which is an airfield. Teams pick numbers when they arrive, but the site does not open until 7 AM, so the Marlboros and Granolas are waiting for the Hours of Operation. Then we race to the clue box! Next, teams open their clues to find a FAST FORWARD!!!
FAST FORWARD: Recall (if you can, since we see these so rarely anymore) that a fast forward is a task that can be performed to allow one team to skip all remaining tasks and head directly to the pit stop. However, each team may only use their fast forward power once on the race, so they must decide when it is more advantageous to use it. In this, the ONLY fast forward on this race, teams must travel to Fabio Studio and take part in an “Italian seafaring tradition”. What teams DON’T know is that this tradition is to get a tattoo. Each team member must have “FF” tattooed on his or her arm to get their next clue.
Teams decide to go for the Fast Forward in the following order: 1- Nicolas/Donald
So, Chicago goes for the Fast Forward. Nic is all for it, and Don is a little wary, but does it anyway, and the team gets their Fast Forward and drives to the Pit Stop at Boboli Gardens in Florence.
It’s important to note that Jennifer lamented the fact AGAIN that she and Nathan will not be in first because they didn’t take the fast forward. Shut up, FLO, and RAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE! Besides, I always tell my students, it doesn’t matter if you come in first on every leg; it’s the last leg that counts.
Now, if a team didn’t get the Fast Forward, teams searched through their clue for another envelope.
And teams come to the seventh roadblock. ROADBLOCK: Who’s feeling “ultra” light of heart?
In this roadblock, one person must become a passenger on an ultralight, a man-powered airplane vehicle, and search a 6 mile area of Tuscany for a clue on the ground. Once the team member directs the pilot in the correct direction and finds the clue (VINCI), that team member signals a landing. On the ground, the team member must tell the flight crew the clue to get the envelope. The flight lasts for 30 minutes. If the team member does not find the clue in that time, they must land to refuel and then go back into the air.
The following team members complete the Roadblock. 1- Thomas Kyle – who goes up into the air FOUR TIMES before he finally found the clue. In the meantime, everyone else did it in one pass. 2- Nathan 3- Christina – Ron: “I would have peed my pants.” 4- Vyxsin
Teams complete the Roadblock in the following order: 1- Nathan/Jennifer 2- Ronald/Christina 3- Kynt/Vyxsin 4- TK/Rachel
Teams are then instructed to drive themselves to the town of Vinci and find Leonardo da Vinci’s birthplace to find their next clue.
Teams arrive in Vinci in the following order: 1- Nathan/Jennifer 2- Ronald/Christina 3- Kynt/Vyxsin 4- TK/Rachel
And we get the Detour Clue. DETOUR: Invention OR Tradition *Invention: Teams travel 50 yards to a courtyard and assemble a crane invented by Leonardo himself to lift a large stone 1 foot in the air. Once completed, teams place a mirror box underneath the stone to read their clue. *Tradition: Teams travel back down the hill to the Piazza Guido Masi and learn a traditional flag routine. Once teams are correct, the flagmaster will give them their next clue.
1-Nathan/Jennifer choose Tradition 2-Ronald/Christina choose Tradition 3-Kynt/Vyxsin choose Invention – but quickly bald snark to Tradtion. En route, their car stops working, and while they run to the other Detour option, a new car is provided for them. 4-TK/Rachel choose Invention
Teams complete the detour in the following order: 1- Nathan/Jennifer 2- Ronald/Christina 3- TK/Rachel – who then get a flat tire leaving the Detour. 4- Kynt/Vyxsin
Teams must now drive themselves to the PIT STOP, the Boboli Gardens in Florence Italy. This garden is the seventh Pit Stop in a racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!
Cue the Italian horn players! *HONK*
1-Nicolas/Donald – who win a five day spa trip to Cancun, with deep sea fishing and a tour of Chichen Itza. NICE! 2-Nathan/Jennifer 3-Ronald/Christina 4-TK/Rachel 5-Kynt/Vyxsin
The Goths are the last team to arrive. HOWEVER, this is the first of TWO non-elimination legs and they are still in the race. (Toyouke: “The Powers that Be LIED!”) HOWEVER, instead of being marked for elimination, or having their money or possessions taken from them, Kynt and Vyxsin will encounter a Speed Bump on Leg 8. A Speed Bump is a task that only they will perform, and it could occur at any point on the leg.
ORDER NOW: 1st – Nicolas/Donald 2nd – Nathan/Jennifer 3rd – Ronald/Christina 4th – TK/Rachel 5th – Kynt/Vyxsin
Next week: The Goths play dirty in order to stay in the game. And Ron is back to his old tricks. Until next time!
