TVSummary guide: The Amazing Race 12: 12/30/07 Episode 8 Recap

Kmanpat writes, "Welcome to Leg 8! Last time, on If I Flew Around Tuscany, I Would Have Peed My Pants, the Granolas suffer when Thomas Kyle cant find the word “VINCI” in a cornfield. In the meantime, Nicolas changed his oh so beautiful body by putting a tattoo of “FF” on his arm. (Toyouke; “He’s still beautiful, and he’s still mine, so back off, you.”) And the Goths fell apart, landing them in last place. BUT, this was a non-elimination round (and all of YOU thought that there weren’t going to be any of those). And now Kynt and Vyxsin have to do a Speed Bump task on this leg. (Toyouke: “I’m hoping for henna tattoos. They would have no problem with that.”) Who will be eliminated. . . next?

10:12 PM Nicolas/Donald (1^st)
Clue: Fly to Mumbai, India! Once there, travel by auto-rickshaw to M.R. Naik Newspaper Stand and purchase a copy of Times of India. Printed in the newspaper will be your next clue. You have $105 for this leg of the race.

Being INTELLIGENT, Team Chicago finds an Internet kiosk, buys tickets on an Air France flight by phone, and then finds a hotel and goes to sleep for a few hours.

11:55 PM Nathan/Jennifer (2^nd) – who travel directly to the airport, just like everyone else.

1:06 AM Ronald/Christina (3^rd) – They also find internet and reserve tickets on the Air France flight.

2:11 AM TK/Rachel (4^th)
3:23 AM Kynt/Vyxsin (5^th)

Teams arrive at the airport in the following order:
1- Nathan/Jennifer
2- Ronald/Christina
3- TK/Rachel
4- Kynt/Vyxsin
5- Nicolas/Donald

Teams arrive at the airport, only to find that it doesn’t even open until 4:30 AM. When it does open, many of the counters don’t open until 5:30 AM. Thus, teams line up at Air France to get the best possible flight, and things shake down from there:

Flight 1: Air France via Paris, departs 6:50 AM, arrives 10:35 PM
1) Nicolas/Donald
2) Ronald/Christina
3) Nathan/Jennifer

Flight 2: KLM via Amsterdam, arrives 10:50 PM
1) Kynt/Vyxsin

Flight 3: Lufthansa via Frankfurt, departs 10 AM, arrives 1 AM
1) TK/Rachel

The Amazing Lines travel to Mumbai! However, the Air France flight gets delayed due to air traffic issues in Paris. Thus, teams arrive in Mumbai in the following order:
1- Kynt/Vyxsin
2- Nathan/Jennifer
3- Ronald/Christina
4- Nicolas/Donald
5- TK/Rachel

So now teams are traveling to the newsstand. When they arrive, they find that it is closed until 6 AM. So teams camp out on the streets of Mumbai.

At 6 AM, the teams get their newspapers in the following order:
1- Kynt/Vyxsin
2- Ronald/Christina
3- Nicolas/Donald
4- Nathan/Jennifer
5- TK/Rachel

Teams start perusing the newspaper for the clue. Teams then find the clue in the following order:
1- Kynt/Vyxsin
2- Ronald/Christina
3- TK/Rachel
4- Nicolas/Donald
5- Nathan/Jennifer – this took them a few HOURS, putting them squarely in last place. Remember this.

Teams find in the newspaper that they are to travel by auto-rickshaw to Chauhan Alteration Tailors and get their next clue from the shop owner. On the way, after getting lost for a spell, Kynt and Vyxsin find what they’ve been looking for:

SPEED BUMP:
A speed bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the speed bump occurred and continue the leg. In this, the first of two speed bumps on this race, teams must travel to Daria Mahal to perform yoga with a group. The yogi will lead them through a series of moves and once they are completed correctly, they may get their next clue.

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:
1- Kynt/Vyxsin

So, the Goths do yoga. They complete this quickly and taxi back to the tailor shop to get their next clue.

Now, if a team didn’t have to do the Speed Bump, teams went directly to Chauhan Alteration Tailors and arrived in the following order:
1- Nicolas/Donald
2- Ronald/Christina
3- TK/Rachel
4- Nathan/Jennifer
5- Kynt/Vyxsin – this was after the Speed Bump, BTW.

And we get the Detour Clue.

DETOUR:
Paste Em OR Thread Em
*Paste Em: Teams travel to the marked underpass at Dadar West Bridge and paste a six-panel movie poster on its walls. The panels are large and must be in perfect alignment. Once posted, the teams receive their next clue from the foreman.
*Thread Em: Teams travel to Dadar Flower Market and find the marked stall where they are to complete a traditional Indian wedding garland by threading 108 flowers onto a string. Once complete, teams must deliver the garland to the bridegroom to get their next clue.

1-Ronald/Christina choose Paste Em – and Ron loses it when he pastes the poster too high and can’t reach it to fix the poster that he pasted incorrectly in the MIDDLE of the tableau. Once again, FREE CHRISTINA!
2-TK/Rachel choose Thread Em
3-Nicolas/Donald choose Paste Em
4-Nathan/Jennifer choose Thread Em – and bicker through the whole task, only to try and give the completed garland to an elephant at the end. (Toyouke: “Why couldn’t the elephant have eaten that?”)
5-Kynt/Vyxsin choose Thread Em

Teams complete the detour in the following order:
1- Nicolas/Donald
2- TK/Rachel
3- Ronald/Christina
4- Nathan/Jennifer
5- Kynt/Vyxsin

Once the tasks are completed, teams are instructed to travel to Kabutar Khana traffic island to get their next clue.

CAUTION: U-TURN AHEAD

This is the second of two U-Turns of the race. Teams may choose to u-turn any team they wish (well, the team has to be behind them), but they may only use the U-Turn once during the race. If a team is u-turned, they must go back to the Detour choices and complete the Detour that they did not complete.

Teams arrive at the U-Turn and then get their next clue in the following order:
1- TK/Rachel choose to U-Turn no one
2- Nicolas/Donald choose to U-Turn no one
3- Ronald/Christina choose to U-Turn no one
4- Kynt/Vyxsin choose to U-Turn Nicolas/Donald – OK, stop right there. I will forgive the Skippers for their crazy move in the first U-Turn, but this is ridiculous. First, you’ve overcome your penalty and figure you HAVE to be last. Then, you watch the Tweedle Dipwads hand their garland to an ELEPHANT and you DON’T U-TURN THEM? Biggest. Strategic. Flaw. EVER. EVER!
5- Nathan/Jennifer cannot U-Turn

So, Nicolas/Donald are U-Turned, but because they have already passed the U-Turn, it does not affect them. In the meantime, teams continue to the Kabutar Khana clue and arrive in the following order:
1- TK/Rachel
2- Nicolas/Donald
3- Ronald/Christina
4- Kynt/Vyxsin
5- Nathan/Jennifer

Teams now discover that they are to travel to Bharatgas Colaba Propane Gas Service for their next clue.

Teams arrive at Bharatgas Colaba in the following order:
1- Nicolas/Donald
2- Ronald/Christina
3- TK/Rachel
4- Kynt/Vyxsin
5- Nathan/Jennifer

And teams come to the eighth roadblock.
ROADBLOCK:
Who’s got a strong back and good navigational skills?

In this roadblock, one person must take a bike and cart and fill it with six full propane tanks. The team member then takes the tanks to two addresses on their purchase slips, deliver three tanks to each address, and collect the receipts. Then, the team member returns to the foreman to deliver the bike, purchase slips and receipts and get their next clue.

The following team members complete the Roadblock.
1- Nicolas
2- Ronald
3- TK
4- Kynt – who gives the purchase slips to the customer and has to go back for them.
5- Jennifer – who forgets her receipts. Oops.

Teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:
1- TK/Rachel
2- Nicolas/Donald
3- Ronald/Christina
4- Nathan/Jennifer – Jennifer: “OMG, those Goths have witch powers.”
5- Kynt/Vyxsin

Teams must now take a taxi 14 miles to the PIT STOP, Bandra Fort. This sixteenth century fort is the eighth Pit Stop in a racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive MAY be eliminated!

1-TK/Rachel – who win a five day trip to St. Maarten/Saint-Martin. Phil: “I assume you’ll be taking each other?”

The Goths are the last team to arrive. AGAIN. And they are sad to go. Well, yes, fair enough, since Nathan and Jennifer gave them PLENTY of opportunity to win. Blah.
