TVSummary guide: The Amazing Race 12: 1/13/08 Episode 10 Recap

Kmanpat writes, "Welcome to Leg 10! Last time, on Osaka To Me!, teams fly from Mumbai to Osaka. Ron stopped being overbearing and helped the team move into first place. And the Marlboros pushed to be in first. And then they pushed each other. (Jennifer: “Don’t push me, that will slow us down!”) The Granolas took their own route, putting them three hours behind. BUT, this was a non-elimination round, and now Thomas Kyle and Rachel have to do a Speed Bump task on this leg. Who will be eliminated. . . tonight?

Arrival at the pit stop last episode:
1st – Ronald/Christina, Team Archie Bunker, arrived at 7:02 PM
2nd
Nathan/Jennifer, Team Marlboro, arrived at 7:15 PM
3rd – Nicolas/Donald, Team Chicago, arrived at 7:21 PM
4th – TK/Rachel, Team Granola, arrived at 10:18 PM

Tempozan Park, Osaka, Japan

7:02 AM Ronald/Christina (1st)
Clue: Take a taxi to the “Building with a hole in it” (the Umeda Sky Building) and take the elevator to the Floating Garden observatory to search for your next clue. You have $374 for this leg of the race.

(Kmanpat: “Hey, I took my kids to the Umeda Sky Building in Geometry Amazing Race 2; they had to do a Roadblock where one team member had to solve an algebraic proof while bungee jumping off the roof!” Toyouke: “You do realize that you are a dork, right?”)

7:15 PM Nathan/Jennifer (2nd) – Jennifer: “Today is my birthday!” Nathan: “We’re like the Incredible Hulk or something. We’re about ready to explode and tear our shirts off!” (Kmanpat: “I’m waiting!” Toyouke: “Down, you.”)

7:21 PM Nicolas/Donald (3rd)
10:18 PM TK/Rachel (4th)

Teams arrive at the Umeda Sky Building in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- Nathan/Jennifer
3- Nicolas/Donald

4- TK/Rachel

Teams find that when they arrive, the Floating Garden does not open until 10 am. So, the first three teams wait, then take the elevator to the top to get their next clues in the following order.
1- Ronald/Christina
2- Nathan/Jennifer
3- Nicolas/Donald

4- TK/Rachel

Teams are now instructed to take a taxi to the airport and fly 1000 miles to TAIPEI, TAIWAN! Teams will then find their next clue at Taipei Main Train Station.

Teams arrive at Kansai International Airport in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- Nathan/Jennifer
3- Nicolas/Donald

4- TK/Rachel

Teams jockey for position, and board their flights:

Flight 1: EVA Airlines, departs 1:00 PM, arrives 2:51 pm
1) Ronald/Christina – who get a free upgrade. Sweet!

Flight 2: China Air, departs 1:15 pm, arrives 3:05 pm

3- TK/Rachel
4- Nicolas/Donald

Teams rip open their clue and find that they are to travel by high speed rail to the town of Taichung. Then teams take a taxi to the town of Jiji and find Acrobatics Jeep. Teams take the following trains:

Train 1:
1) Ronald/Christina

Train 2:
1) TK/Rachel
2) Nathan/Jennifer
3) Nicolas/Donald

Teams arrive in Taichung in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina

3- Nicolas/Donald – Nicolas: “I should just shave off TK’s beard.”
4- Nathan/Jennifer

Teams taxi to their location and arrive at Acrobatics Jeep in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- TK/Rachel

3- Nathan/Jennifer
4- Nicolas/Donald

And teams come to the ninth roadblock.

ROADBLOCK:
Who’s ready to go for a tricky ride?

In this roadblock, one person must ride in two stunt cars. The first will be driven by a stunt man onto a teeter-totter 25 feet in the air. After a rollicking ride, the team member then dons protective goggles and gets in an amphibious vehicle to go underwater, where they hold their breath for 17 seconds. And, according to Phil, “if the team member is still alive when it’s all over, they will get their next clue.”

The following team members complete the Roadblock.
1- Ron
2- Rachel
3- Nathan

4- Donald

Teams complete the Roadblock in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- TK/Rachel

3- Nathan/Jennifer
4- Nicolas/Donald

Once the task is completed, teams notice the next task.

SPEED BUMP:
A speed bump is a task that must be performed by the last place team on a non-elimination leg. Once they complete this task, they may return to the place where the speed bump occurred and continue the leg. In this, the second of two speed bumps on this race, teams must travel about one mile to He-Ping and take part in a tradition related to the Chinese Lantern Festival. The team dons safety suits, run through a fireworks display, and then be doused with a bucket of water per a local Jiji tradition. Once completed, the team returns to the Roadblock to receive their next clue.

Teams complete the Speed Bump in the following order:
1- TK/Rachel

So, the Granolas run through fireworks. They complete this quickly and taxi back to the Roadblock to get their next clue.

Teams are then instructed by their clue to travel by high speed rail back to Taipei and taxi to GK Teahouse and drink a cup of tea. The teacup will have the clue on the bottom. Teams arrive at Taichung Station in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- Nathan/Jennifer

3- Nicolas/Donald
4- TK/Rachel

Teams board the following trains:

Train 1, departs at 7:16 pm:
1) Ronald/Christina

Train 2, departs at 8:00 pm:
1) Nathan/Jennifer
2) Nicolas/Donald
3) TK/Rachel

Teams arrive back in Taipei in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- Nathan/Jennifer
– Jennifer: “It’s still my birthday!”
3- Nicolas/Donald
4- TK/Rachel

Teams then taxi to GK Teahouse and receive their tea in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- Nicolas/Donald
– who snuck out of the train station a different way to get ahead.
3- TK/Rachel
4- Nathan/Jennifer

Once teams finish their tea, they get their clue in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- Nicolas/Donald

3- TK/Rachel
4- Nathan/Jennifer

The clue, written in Chinese, says to travel to Gong Guan Night Market and find the Happy Clown to receive their next clue.

Teams then arrive at Gong Guan in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- Nicolas/Donald

3- TK/Rachel
4- Nathan/Jennifer – who decide to take the subway because “traffic is bad”. Oh, and it’s Jennifer’s birthday, and this is all Nathan’s fault, because she wasn’t the one who insisted on taking the subway. Which? Totally was.

Anyway, we get the Detour Clue.
DETOUR:
Fire OR Earth

*Fire: Teams travel to Zhongzhang Park, write luck messages on paper lanterns and burn spirit money in order to lift them into the sky. Teams must launch 20 lanterns to get their next clue.
*Earth: Teams travel to Youth Park and participate in walking a 220 foot bath barefoot both ways with soothing stones. Once complete, the musicians will give the teams their next clue.

1-Roanld/Christina choose Earth
2-Nicolas/Donald choose Earth
3-TK/Rachel choose Earth

4-Nathan/Jennifer choose Earth

Teams complete the detour in the following order:
1- Ronald/Christina
2- TK/Rachel

3- Nicolas/Donald
4- Nathan/Jennifer

Teams must now take a taxi to the PIT STOP, Chaing Kai-Shek Memorial Hall Plaza. This is the tenth Pit Stop in a racearoundtheworld. The last team to arrive WILL be eliminated!

1- Ronald/Christina – who win a five night trip to Curaçao in Netherlands Antilles (the only country named for a liquor!) and they will receive stone massages and snorkeling!
2- TK/Rachel

3- Nicolas/Donald
4- Nathan/Jennifer

The Marlboros are eliminated. Wait. WHAT DID THAT SAY? Back there, in that sentence, WHAT DID THAT SAY? The Marlboros were ELIMINATED?!?! Amazing Editors, how I love thee! Happy birthday, Jennifer! Nathan: “This sucks big time.” Jennifer: “We learned a lot, but killed our relationship. We were more interested in winning the race than fixing our relationship.” And folks, as much as I hate Nathan and Jennifer, they truly sum up better than any team why we don’t go on the Amazing Race to improve our romantic relationships.

ORDER NOW:
1st – Ronald/Christina
2nd – TK/Rachel
3rd – Nicolas/Donald

Next week: Finale! TK and Rachel get pinched by crabs! Don snipes at Nic over a critical clue mix–up! Ronald freaks out at his daughter as she climbs an ice wall! And we find out our winner! Until next time!
