TVSummary guide: Nashville Star: Original Song Night 7/21/08
MsScarlett writes, " Original Song Night! For Nashville Star, original song night has always been something that has made it a little different from other talent shows. Now we will find out if our contestants have song writing talent as well as song singing talent. The group also gets to perform at the Grand Ole’ Opry. Sounds like an interesting night!
Our first performer of the night is Coffey. It is a typical Southern pride type song. It is kind of catchy and actually my favorite performance by Coffey so far. Even Ref is somewhat impressed.
Jeffrey: You pulled it off. You did a great job. John: I don’t think that’s a hit song on country radio. Jewel: That song is you and you stood for what you are. The next up is Melissa Lawson, singing her song, “Ready to Stand.” This song has an inspirational feel to it and Melissa’s voice is strong as usual. Jewel: You did a good job writing a song for yourself. Jeffrey: We have some incredible talent on this show. John: I am becoming more and more impressed every week. The third performer tonight is Gabe Garcia singing “Lost Weekend.” It is a pretty good song. Ref liked the catchy chorus. Jeffrey: I liked it! John: I liked it, too. You still need to work on your connection with the audience. Jewel: Make sure your songs are not too generic. We are down to Ashley Hewitt and Shawn Mayer. They will both get to perform and one of them will be going home. Ashley sings first with “Mike’s hard Lemonade.” It is a quirky little song and Ashley sounds awesome tonight. Jewel: I loved your song. Jeffrey: I am really impressed by your song writing skills. John: Should you be gone tonight, Nashville would be a fool not to give you a record deal. Shawn Mayer’s original song is called “I’m Not Looking Back.” This is a good song and there is something about Shawn I really like. John: The last couple of weeks have been slam dunks. Jewel: I think this really shows your strong suit. Jeffrey: Whatever happens tonight, win or loose, you have a career ahead of you. Now we have to say goodbye to either Ashley or Shawn. And the person going home is...Ashley. Congratulations to Ashley for making it this far. I hope she continues on to greater things. I do have to say that this has been the best show of the season.
