Welcome to John Doe - Mind Games or "Who's Your Daddy?" *Dominic Purcell is John Doe a man who has knowledge of everything but his own identity. *John Marshall Jones is Detective Frank Hayes a police officer willing to look past his own questions to take advantage of Doe's abilities to find answers to difficult cases. *Sprague Grayden is Karen a young lady with mysteries in her own background who has become Doe's personal assistant and confidant. *William Forsythe is Digger a friend of John's and the owner of The Sea, where John Doe feels most at home. *Jayne Brook is Leutenient Jamie Avery suspicious of Doe and his abilites she reluctantly accepts his help but with a watchful eye.
Inviting the two strangers in John looks and sure enough the DNA profile that they have from the boy is a match to John Doe's own profile. The lady explains that the boy had been concieved using artificial insemination and that she had used a facility called Invetro Choice. The desire to identify the boy's father led them to bribe information from a nurse at the facility and they received a medical history and a DNA profile. The DNA profile that John Doe had posted with The N.D.I.S. had been cross referenced by the boy who happens to be a computer whiz. John discusses the recent developments with his friends Digger and Karen tells them of his plan to investigate the story and the place to start would be with the donor service. If he can get into their data base maybe he can find some information concerning his identity. At Invetro Choice, Doe posses as a donor and questions the nurse about the procedure. John proves that he not only knows football but he also knows everything there is to know about sperm. He successfully breaks into the information room an secures a file with information. Doe learns that the boy's birth was the result of a donation selected from a group designated as Otto. Apparently eight of the best and brightest candidates where used to insure the highest probability of a exceptional offspring. Doe determines to check the eight names on the list he located with hopes of identifying Wesley's father and also to determine which of the names on the list might be his as a possible donor in this program. John takes the boy Wesley with him and they begin working the list #1 is a motorcycle mechanic named Lanegan, he gets upset when he learns Doe's questions are related to Group Otto. Finding #2 on the list leads them to a brainsurgeon's office. Dr. Elvis, contacted by Mr. Lanegan refuses to cooperate with Doe. At the address of #3 a female opens the door voices some threats and then closes it. When they arrive at the address for #4 on the list they find him slumped over his table dead. When Lt. Avery and Det. Hayes arrive they determine that not only was the individual murdered but his brain had been removed. Det. Hayes is upset to find that Doe had brought Wesley with him on an investigation and questioned his responsibility with the boy. The bizarre circumstances of this crime fit the description of the death of an individual whose name also happens to be on the list. The first suspect questioned is the brain surgeon Dr. Elvis and then the mechanic Lanegan but no information is obtained. When they question the lady whose name is found on the list D. Walker admits to being an egg donor, under Lt. Avery's insistance she finally explains that Group Otto was a project to engineer the perfect children, superior babies. Eight of the most intelligent indivduals where used as donors but when news of the groups intentions was reported in generated alot to negative public reaction including treats of harm or death. Lanegan, Dr. Elvis and Ms. Walker are impressed when they test John Doe's reasoning ability and intelligence. It is a brainiac showdown as they toss questions of a wide variety at Doe only to find him capable of providing the correct answers. There remains three names to check on the list, two of the names belonging to individuals who the group never met. Those two had sent their donations in by Fed. Ex. and where never present during the project. Doe and Det. Hayes visit the address for #6 on the list and he is found dead and his brain has been removed like the previous two deaths. While they check out the crime scene a hooded intruder makes a run from the scene with a box. A chase follows and the individual disappears into a dead end alley. Wesley shows up again having followed John and Det. Hayes proceeds to lecture Doe again on how to deal with kids. As Det. Hayes leaves to spend the day with his son, Wesley reveals to John that he is color blind. A super intelligent young boy, who is color blind, curious and curiouser. John discusses the situation with his friend Digger during a friendly game of nine ball back at The Sea and Digger tells him not to dismiss so quickly the opportunity he has since this may be the only family he has been able to locate. Karen informs Doe that because of a break in at one of the members of Group Otto's home, Lanegan, Dr. Elvis and Ms. Walker have all moved into his appartment for protection. It is now a regular genius convention and while John and Ms. Walker are out Lanegan and Dr. Elvis build a scale model of the intruder's escape from Doe and Det. Hayes using the crime scene photo's. Using robots constructed by Wesley Doe gets an idea. Returning to the alley, Doe finds not only the escape route but the hide out of the killer complete with the stolen brains and photo's of those involved with Group Otto. With Lt. Avery and Det. Hayes searching through the evidece Doe determines that the killer's next target is Wesley. It is learned that Wesley has been kidnapped and the next stop according to entries in the killer's journal suggest the Invetro Choice building. At the facility there is a showdown and with Doe's alert assistance Det. Hayes is able to shoot the hooded criminal who turns out to be the #7 name on the list of eight. Wesley is saved and will be okay and the eighth name William Sullivan the only participant not accounted for might belong to John Doe. Det. Hayes question's Doe about the boys future with him and John admits that he knows everything about fatherhood in terms of information but nothing about being a Dad. The four surviving members of the Group Otto project have their card game interrupted by Karen with results of the paternity test that each had submitted to. The test reveal that Lanegan the mechanical engineer and motorcycle enthusist is Wesley's real father. Wesley also has a secret that he only pretended to be color blind because he noticed that Doe was himself. As John reunites the father and son in a park in another location two men exchange an information file. The file is then presented to The Distinguished Lady in her limosiene and as the episode concludes she announces while looking at photo's of John Doe that "It is time".
1) Could the William Sullivan from Group Otto be John Doe???? 2) Is the emptiness and loneliness Doe experiences be an indication of a real family somewhere???? 3) What connection does John have to the Distinguised Woman and why is she interested in Doe???? 4) Who or What is John Doe???? That is why we will watch next time."
